How to Modify the Appearance of TOP (AKA Pimp my TOP!)

PostPosted: Sat Sep 29, 2012 3:52 pm

You can modify the graphics of your TOP game in almost anyway you like (as long as you know how to modify image files!)
Note that any graphical changes you make can only be seen by yourself unless ofc you've shared your changes w/ some friends.

I will only show how to modify the appearance of TOP in multiplayer modes.
The procedure should be roughly the same for other modes I just haven't tried yet.
The only difficulty would be locating those files!

I think it would also work for music.

This is also done in Windows.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN! Be sure to make a backup of your TOP client...
Just incase you screw something up. If you don't want to backup
everything just the "skin" folder will do.

2. An image editor: Photoshop, Gimp or Microsoft paint if you're pro enough w/ paint 8D.
3. Time, patience, creativity.

[Eeee] Understaning the graphical elements of TOP

Some of the Elements:

Image Image multi -> default -> multi_teamcolor# (0/1/2/3/4)
Image Image matrix -> matrix_##

There are others but they're a bit all over the place.

[Seee] How to use Wojtek's SjeJHH Tool / Reading SJE.JHH files

There are two methods:
1. The beginner's amateur but basic yet tedious method. (GUI) Recommended Easy method.
2. The slightly more complex but breezy easy method. (Command) The extra challenge method.
... TAKE YOUR PICK >D .

Method 1 - sjejhh_ui.exe
With this method you can only unpack and pack folders w/SJE.JHH files
ONE AT A TIME.
only need to click a few buttons.

1. Extract the "SjeJhhTool_and_UI.zip" you downloaded earlier to anywhere.
2. Open the folder you extracted it to and locate "sjejhh_ui.exe".

3. Open it! (DW it's not a screamer or virus and it doesn't have nasty things that bite.)
(Even if the icon looks like some sort of nuclear rod~ It's oookay!)

Image
You'll get this. Ignore the checkbox... Recursive didn't work for me D:
It now works with new UI vers.

4. (Via the explorer) Locate the folder where your SJE.JHH file is patiently waiting to be opened up and examined.
5. Click "Unpack it!". (Simple neeeeh? ^^ )
6. Edit your files (I'm not going to tell you how to do that! Grrrr...)

NB! At the moment you can't create new themes!
You can only REPLACE a current theme.
I can't program so I can't tell you why.
I just know you cannot! ^^;;

7. Save all your editted files. Remember to keep them in the same locations with the same names!
8. Repeat steps 2-3. (This step is too short. Looks bad. Lalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalala~ That's better 8D.)
9. Find that folder with your poor SJE.JHH file all opened up and its contents thrown around the place.
10. Click "Pack it!" to sew it up and make it all pretty and neat and functional again 8D.updated.

Method 2 - sjejhh.exe
Recursive works in this method! You can batch unpack/pack HURRAH! You get some extra troubles for your effort!

1. Extract the "SjeJhhTool_and_UI.zip" you downloaded earlier to anywhere.
2. Open the folder you extracted it to and locate "sjejhh.exe".
3. Right-click and create a shortcut of "sjejhh.exe".
4. Refer to "readme.txt" in your SjeJhhTool folder for a list of commands.
5. Right-click your shortcut for "sjejhh.exe" and click properties.

6. In the "target" field fill it in according to this formula:

[Directory of SjeJhh.exe] [Command] [Directory of target folder with the SJE.JHH files needed to be unpacked]
I recommend doing in a text document first. Typing in that tiny field is a pain.

Image

7. I'm sure if you use this method you know what to do from now on 8P
EDIT THOSE IMAGES! REPACK! TADAHH!

Tip: If you unpack and repack often make two shortcuts
Image

Reminder! At the moment you can't create new themes!
You can only REPLACE a current theme.
I can't program so I can't tell you why.
I just know you cannot! ^^;;

[Xeee] Example of a modded theme
Excuse the mismatching-ness of the theme this was done on the spot very quickly without any regard for colour. ^^";;

Replaced multi -> default -> multi_teamcolor#.png
Image
(I changed the colours again.)

Replaced multi -> default -> chat_window.png/chat_window2.png
Image Image

Original matrix -> matrix_29 -> matrix18x18_cover.png
Image

Replaced matrix -> matrix_29 -> matrix8x8.png
Image

Replaced matrix -> matrix_29 -> cover40x40/cover50x50/cover60x60
Image

Replaced matrix -> matrix_29 -> matrix18x18.png
Image

Replaced backmulti -> default -> bg0001.png
Image

RESULT >> (It's a mess TT^TT )

[Teee] TLDR vers of tute

Are you talking about how the minos don't seem to quite fit together perfectly?
It's not obvious when playing and when its coloured but it is when the image is desaturated.

It's just JPEG artifacting.
I did a screenshot of my monitor with my TOP window inactive. Problem solved.
